East Coast Soul Wedding Performance at Alden Castle
East Coast Soul was grateful to be asked to perform at the Alden Castle in Brookline, MA for the stunning wedding of Michelle and Joshua in April of 2015. Michelle and Joshua first saw the band at an open rehearsal we held in 2014. Michelle is an excellent vocalist herself, so when she mentioned wanting to move ahead with East Coast Soul as the entertainment for her wedding, we were thrilled.
This was our first time working at Alden Castle. As a Boston Wedding Band, it's always great to perform locally and, as always, we were excited to work with a new venue. We've worked at Alden Castle's affiliate venue, Belle Mer, a number of times. The staff proved warm, welcoming, and helpful and made our time there a true pleasure.
Once the big day arrived, East Coast Soul traveled to Brookline and began our long process of loading in to the venue. Alden Castle's setup is unique, where the ceremony and reception are held in the same room. Therefore, the band's gear must be stored behind a curtain until the ceremony is complete, at which point we can begin our mad dash to set up.
Part of our planning process involves outlining exactly what portions of the wedding East Coast Soul will be involved with. For this wedding in particular, we learned that Michelle and Joshua were also looking for the band to provide ceremony music. As is often the case, we recommended our talented guitarist, Ed Ricco. As is often the case, East Coast Soul was also asked to provide cocktail hour music. Our bassist Joe Sirna and saxophonist Marcus Monteiro provided a subtle, classy atmosphere to the shortened cocktail hour, after which guests returned for introductions.
In a majority of weddings, East Coast Soul is asked to provide MC services for the program portions of the evening. For this wedding in particular, we introduced the bridal party one at a time (as opposed to in pairs) which was somewhat unique. With introductions complete, we moved immediately into the couple’s first dance. This is almost always one of the most meaningful parts of the evening. For this wedding in particular, we were asked to perform a classic: You Are The Best Thing by Ray LaMontagne. After toasts were complete, the guests and vendors took a break for dinner. After resting briefly, East Coast Soul returned and delivered a performance. Guests danced non-stop from beginning to end, and we limited our breaks to ensure people had as much time to dance as possible. We even had a special dance break that a guest had prepared to the song Beat It.
Thanks so much to Michelle and Joshua for having us at their beautiful April wedding at Alden Castle. We wish them all the best.
"These folks were incredible, and absolutely brought the house down at our wedding. Music and food were the two biggest priorities for our reception and East Coast Soul did not disappoint! They had everyone on the dance floor, and the vocals (and accompanying choreography) were outstanding. We also loved that they weren't a "typical" wedding band. Sean and Aaron were very responsive and easy to work with-- I'd hire them again in a heartbeat."
