A breathtaking August wedding at the Private Residence in Mattapoisett, MA where East Coast Soul's Stax ensemble left absolutely everything out on the dance floor!
East Coast Soul was blessed to be asked to join Abby & Josh for their stunning Private Residence Wedding in Mattapoisett, MA.
Preprations for Abby & Josh's Big Day
Our groundwork for the wedding day began many weeks prior, with Abby & Josh offering a myriad of musical and logistical options with us for the wedding day (we always leave an excess of time for preparation). Abby & Josh were happy to be a key part of this advanced planning and incredibly helpful throughout.
Once the wedding day arrived, East Coast Soul traveled to Mattapoisett, MA and began our standard load-in and sound check for Private Residence weddings. Our process for loading in and setting up at any given venue is a big part of our preparation process. This is a part of the day that we take seriously, spending extra time to avoid rushing, and ensuring our gear is properly tuned for the room.
In this case, East Coast Soul was not involved with couple's ceremony, with those arrangements having already been taken care of.
As is often the case, East Coast Soul was requested to perform cocktail hour music. Cocktail hour is a great opportunity for the bride and groom to relax after the heightened emotions of the ceremony. We do our part by performing a variety of relaxed music for guests to enjoy. In this case, and featured music by artists such as Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, and more.
In a bulk of weddings, the band is asked to provide MC services for the formal portions of the celebrations. This Private Residence Wedding was no different.
The bride and groom’s First Dance
The newly married couple's first dance is almost always one of the most unforgettable parts of the wedding day. It's an opportunity for the bride and groom to take a moment for themselves. With this part of the evening finished, the guests and vendors took a break for dinner. After as short a break as possible, East Coast Soul's Stax ensemble returned to the stage.
East Coast Soul shows often start with older material. We've found this is a great way to get folks relaxed and dancing with songs they're familiar with. Artists like Sam and Dave, The Temptations, Earth Wind & Fire, and more dominated the outset of our performance. We then transitioned into playing tunes by artists like Whitney Houston, Prince, Michael Jackson and more. Finally, we ended the night performing contemporary material that everyone could sing along with.
Guests danced non-stop from beginning to end, and we limited our breaks to ensure people had as much time to dance as possible.
Thanks so much to Abby & Josh for having us at their beautiful August wedding at Private Residence! And thank you to Elizabeth LaDuca for sharing these beautiful photos with us!
