Mount Washington Resort Wedding in Bretton Woods, NH

Venue: The Mount Washington Resort, Bretton Woods, NH

Band: East Coast Soul – King Ensemble

Couple: Haley & Drew • Date: September 21, 2024

If you’re dreaming of a New Hampshire mountain wedding that feels both iconic and deeply personal, it’s hard to beat The Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woods. Tucked into the heart of the White Mountains, this historic grand hotel offers sweeping views, timeless architecture, and a layout that flows beautifully from ceremony through last call on the dance floor.

For Haley and Drew’s fall celebration, East Coast Soul’s King Ensemble provided live music from pre-ceremony to the final song of the night. Along the way, we got a front-row seat to what makes a Mount Washington Resort wedding so special for couples and guests traveling from all over New England and beyond.

A Grand Hotel in the Heart of New Hampshire’s White Mountains

The Mount Washington Resort is one of New England’s most recognizable wedding venues, perched at the base of Mount Washington and surrounded by panoramic views of the White Mountains. The approach alone feels like an experience: long, sweeping drive, bright white facade, red roofline, and open mountain sky in every direction.

For couples planning a destination wedding in New Hampshire, Bretton Woods offers that quintessential “away-from-it-all” feeling while still being accessible for Boston, Portland, and greater New England guests. Many wedding weekends here become full-scale getaways, with guests making the most of on-site activities, hiking, foliage drives, and time at the spa before dressing up for the main event.

Ceremonies on the Jewell Terrace at Mount Washington Resort

One of the standout ceremony locations at The Mount Washington Resort is the Jewell Terrace. Overlooking the golf course and the Presidential Range, it gives couples that “mountain backdrop” moment without sacrificing guest comfort or accessibility.

Haley and Drew chose the Jewell Terrace for their late-afternoon ceremony, with live solo violin providing the soundtrack. Their processional and recessional choices reflected their style perfectly:

  • Processional: “Wildest Dreams” – Taylor Swift
  • Bride’s entrance: “I Will Always Love You” – Whitney Houston
  • Recessional: “Can’t Help Falling in Love” – Elvis Presley

East Coast Soul provided both ceremony sound and performance, including a handheld mic and lavalier microphone for vows and officiant. The Conservatory served as an elegant rain plan, giving the couple peace of mind no matter what the mountain weather decided to do.

Cocktail Hour with a View in Bretton Woods, NH

After the ceremony, guests stayed on the Jewell Terrace for cocktail hour. This is one of our favorite flows at Mount Washington: guests enjoy the same breathtaking backdrop as the ceremony, but with a drink in hand and the sun starting to dip behind the mountains.

For this portion of the day, Haley and Drew opted for a piano and violin duo. Instrumental versions of pop, folk, and contemporary favorites created an easy, elevated atmosphere that matched the setting — relaxed but refined, and still very “New England mountain weekend.”

In the event of rain or colder weather, cocktail hour can move seamlessly into the Grand Ballroom or adjacent indoor spaces, making The Mount Washington Resort a solid choice in every season, from peak foliage to winter weddings.

Grand Ballroom Receptions at The Mount Washington Resort

If the Jewell Terrace is all about the views, the Grand Ballroom is all about the classic grand-hotel feel. High ceilings, elegant architectural details, and a built-in sense of history make it an incredible backdrop for a live band and an energetic crowd.

For Haley and Drew, the Grand Ballroom hosted dinner, toasts, and a full evening dance party with the King Ensemble. The couple chose not to have traditional introductions, but their wedding party still made a memorable entrance to “September” by Earth, Wind & Fire before the couple stepped straight into their first dance, “Joy of My Life” by Chris Stapleton, performed live.

The ballroom layout works especially well for keeping everything in one place: dinner seating, band stage, bar, and dance floor all feel integrated, so guests never feel far from the action.

Personalized Music Moments: First Dances and Parent Dances

One of the biggest advantages of a live wedding band at The Mount Washington Resort is the ability to shape moments in a way that feels truly personal to the couple. Haley and Drew came to us with very specific ideas for their first dance and parent dances, and the King Ensemble built custom arrangements to match.

Their first dance, “Joy of My Life,” was shortened to about two and a half minutes – long enough to fully land emotionally, but tight enough to keep the energy moving into the rest of the evening.

For the father–daughter dance, we stitched together a Tim McGraw medley:

  • Beginning at the second verse of “Humble and Kind”, moving into the chorus
  • A cowboy-hat moment mid-dance
  • Then a seamless transition into the chorus of “Just to See You Smile”

The mother–son dance featured “Her Little Man” by Jami Grooms, starting at the second verse (“She held that baby so tight in her arms”) and running to the end. It was intimate, specific, and very them — exactly the kind of detail that live performance makes possible.

Building a Setlist for a White Mountains Wedding Dance Floor

Haley and Drew’s musical taste leaned strongly toward a mix of vintage soul, country, and feel-good anthems, with plenty of room for modern favorites. Some of their top requests included Chris Stapleton, Taylor Swift, Queen, ABBA, and Dua Lipa — the perfect blend of timeless and contemporary.

Add in must-plays like “Take Me Home, Country Roads” and “Can’t Help Falling in Love”, and you’ve got the makings of a set that feels nostalgic, energetic, and entirely authentic to them. They also preferred avoiding some of the most overplayed pop selections, which let the band get creative without losing the dance floor.

For couples planning a Mount Washington Resort wedding, this kind of musical direction helps shape a night that feels intentional, unique, and true to your tastes.

Guest Experience at a Bretton Woods Wedding

One of the biggest perks of hosting your wedding at The Mount Washington Resort is the guest experience. Because lodging, dining, spa, golf, and event spaces are all located on the property, your celebration naturally becomes a full New Hampshire destination weekend.

From our perspective as a band, this usually means relaxed arrivals, early participation on the dance floor, and that special “vacation energy” guests bring when they’re surrounded by mountains, fresh air, and a truly iconic hotel.

For Haley and Drew, guests stayed engaged from the first dance to the last song — helped along by the venue allowing a few extra minutes past the official end time.

Booking a Live Wedding Band for The Mount Washington Resort

If you’re planning a Mount Washington Resort wedding in Bretton Woods, East Coast Soul has extensive experience performing across the property — from the Jewell Terrace to the Grand Ballroom — and understands the logistics, timing, and musical flow that work best in this iconic venue.

Our King Ensemble can support every part of your day, including ceremony strings, cocktail hour ensembles, small dinner groups, and full-band dance receptions built for a packed floor.
