A heartwarming wedding at the Glen Manor House in Portsmouth, RI where East Coast Soul's Stax ensemble definitely made some new best friends!
East Coast Soul was fortunate to be brought to join Cara & Kevin for their stunning Glen Manor House Wedding in Portsmouth, RI.
Preprations for Cara & Kevin's Big Day
Our planning for the big day began months in advance, with Cara & Kevin sharing their music and logistical preferences and vision with us for the big day (preparation is a key part of our process). Cara & Kevin were incredibly helpful during this advanced planning and incredibly helpful throughout.
Once the big day arrived, East Coast Soul traveled to Portsmouth, RI and moved swiftly through our standard load-in, set up, and sound check process for Glen Manor House weddings. Our process for loading in and setting up at any given venue is a big part of our preparation process. This is a part of the day that we take seriously, spending extra time to avoid rushing, and ensuring our gear is properly tuned for the room.
In this case, East Coast Soul was not involved with couple's ceremony, with those arrangements having already been taken care of.
As is common, East Coast Soul was requested to perform cocktail hour music. Cocktail hour is a great opportunity for the bride and groom to relax after the heightened emotions of the ceremony. We do our part by providing a variety of relaxed music for guests to enjoy. In this case, and featured music by artists such as Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and more.
In a lion's share of wedding celebrations, East Coast Soul is asked to provide MC services for the formal portions of the celebrations. This Glen Manor House Wedding was no different.
The groom and bride’s First Dance
The groom and bride's first dance is consistently one of the most unforgettable parts of the big day. It's an opportunity for the bride and groom to take a moment for themselves. With this portion of the wedding finished, the guests and vendors took a break for dinner. After as short a break as possible, East Coast Soul's Stax ensemble returned to the stage.
East Coast Soul shows commonly kick off with vintage material. We've found this is a great way to get everyone up on the dance floor with songs they know and love. Artists like Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, and more dominated the beginning of our set list. We then transitioned into playing tunes by artists like Whitney Houston, Prince, Michael Jackson and more. Finally, we ended the night performing contemporary material that everyone could sing along with.
Guests danced non-stop from beginning to end, and we limited our breaks to ensure people had as much time to dance as possible.
Thanks so much to Cara & Kevin for having us at their beautiful October wedding at Glen Manor House!
