Grafton Inn Wedding in Southern Vermont
Venue: The Grafton Inn, Grafton, Vermont
Band: East Coast Soul – Stax Ensemble
Couple: Kelly & Jeff • Year: September 2010
The Grafton Inn is one of those places that feels like it was built for weddings — charming, historic, tucked into the hills of Southern Vermont, and surrounded by some of the most peaceful scenery in New England. When Kelly and Jeff chose it for their celebration, we knew the day was going to be something special. Even now, this 2010 wedding still stands out as an incredible example of how timeless, intimate, and music-filled a Vermont wedding can be.
East Coast Soul’s Stax Ensemble joined the couple for cocktail hour through the end of the night, and the entire day had that warm, early-fall glow that makes Grafton one of our favorite destinations for weddings.
A Southern Vermont Wedding Destination
Located in the heart of a picture-perfect village, the Grafton Inn blends historic character with classic Vermont hospitality. The surrounding streets, white farmhouses, green lawns, and mountain views set the tone the moment guests arrive. It’s the kind of venue where the weekend feels slow, comfortable, and full of small-town charm — exactly what couples often want for a Vermont destination wedding.
Whether guests stayed at the inn or wandered the village before the festivities began, the atmosphere was calm, cozy, and unmistakably Vermont.
Cocktail Hour Music at the Grafton Inn
While East Coast Soul wasn’t part of the ceremony for this event, we joined the celebration during cocktail hour with a relaxed, classic set of jazz and vocal standards — the perfect pairing for the Grafton Inn’s peaceful setting. Guests enjoyed selections inspired by Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, and other timeless artists. It was an easy, elegant way to help everyone settle in after the emotion of the ceremony.
As guests mingled and explored the property, the music created a warm backdrop that fit the venue’s colonial-era charm beautifully.
Reception & MC Services
As with most of our weddings, East Coast Soul handled MC duties throughout the reception — guiding introductions, making announcements, and keeping the evening flowing naturally. The Grafton Inn’s layout makes for a smooth transition from cocktails to dinner to dancing, and this reception followed that rhythm perfectly.
Kicking off the night, Kelly and Jeff shared their first dance — a moment that felt heartfelt and grounded, quickly becoming the emotional centerpiece of the evening. From there, dinner was served, the Stax Ensemble took a brief break, and anticipation for the dance floor began to build.
The Dance Floor: From Motown to Modern
Once the Stax Ensemble stepped back on stage, the Grafton Inn transformed into a full-on dance party. We opened with classic soul and Motown — Sam & Dave, The Temptations, Earth, Wind & Fire — the kind of songs that draw every generation to the dance floor. These favorites always set the tone: familiar, joyful, and impossible to resist.
As the night unfolded, the band moved into high-energy hits by Whitney Houston, Prince, Michael Jackson, and more, layering in contemporary favorites toward the end of the evening. Guests danced straight through until the final song, and we kept set breaks minimal to make the most of the energy in the room.
The combination of a historic Vermont inn, early-fall weather, and a packed dance floor made the celebration feel intimate, joyful, and personal — everything a Grafton wedding should be.
A Timeless Vermont Wedding
Even years later, Kelly and Jeff’s Grafton Inn wedding remains one of our favorite Southern Vermont celebrations — warm, heartfelt, and filled with the spirit of the region. The Grafton Inn continues to be one of the most beloved wedding venues in Vermont, and this day perfectly showcased why: beautiful spaces, an inviting atmosphere, and a couple surrounded by the people they love most.
We are so grateful to Kelly and Jeff for inviting East Coast Soul’s Stax Ensemble into their celebration, and it’s a joy to look back on such a timeless, music-filled Vermont wedding.
