A charming wedding at the York Harbor Reading Room in York, ME where East Coast Soul's King ensemble had the guests screaming for an encore!
"When you are a destination bride, choosing vendors is stressful and nerve wracking! In selecting East Coast Soul, I basically went off of online reviews, YouTube videos and conversations with the band director (?). I am so glad we chose them and COULD NOT have been happier! Not only was the band director incredibly easy to communicate with, flexible and reliable, the band was outstanding! Everything went according to the questionnaire we filled out a few weeks before and they were lively and high energy. We had a small wedding (75 guests) and I was worried about the dance floor being "dead" the whole time. This was not the case. East Coast Soul did an incredible job keeping everyone dancing!"

East Coast Soul was blessed to be brought to join Lizzie & Bobby for their stunning York Harbor Reading Room Wedding in York, ME.
Preprations for Lizzie & Bobby's Big Day
Our preparations for the wedding began months in advance, with Lizzie & Bobby sharing their music and logistical preferences and vision with us for the wedding (we take our preparation process extremely seriously). Lizzie & Bobby were incredibly helpful during this advanced planning and super helpful throughout.
Once the wedding arrived, East Coast Soul traveled to York, ME and carried out our normal load-in, set up, and sound check process for York Harbor Reading Room weddings. We're often asked about our process for loading in and sound checking at various venues. This is a part of the day that we take seriously, spending extra time to avoid rushing, and ensuring our gear is properly tuned for the room.
In this case, East Coast Soul was not involved with couple's ceremony, with those arrangements having already been taken care of.
As is common, East Coast Soul was requested to perform cocktail hour music. Cocktail hour is a wonderful chance for the bride and groom to relax after the heightened emotions of the ceremony. We contribute by providing a variety of relaxed music for guests to enjoy. In this case, and featured music by artists such as Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and more.
In a bulk of celebrations, the band is asked to take care of MC services for the formal portions of the receptions. This York Harbor Reading Room Wedding was no different.
The couple’s First Dance
The newly married couple's first dance is traditionally one of the most unforgettable parts of the wedding. It's a chance for the bride and groom to take a moment for themselves. With this portion of the evening complete, the guests and vendors took a break for dinner. After a quick break, East Coast Soul's King ensemble circled back to the stage.
East Coast Soul shows often start with older material. We've found this is a great way to get guests relaxed and dancing with songs they know and love. Artists like Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, and more dominated the outset of our performance. We then moved into playing tunes by artists like Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Prince and more. Finally, we ended the night performing contemporary material that everyone could sing along with.
Guests danced non-stop from beginning to end, and we limited our breaks to ensure people had as much time to dance as possible.
Thanks so much to Lizzie & Bobby for having us at their beautiful September wedding at York Harbor Reading Room!
