A Vermont Mountain Wedding in Early March

March weddings in Vermont always have a little magic to them — that late-winter quiet, the snow on the hills, the cozy feel of being tucked away somewhere beautiful. Brett and Shelby’s celebration at Mountain Top Resort fit that vibe perfectly. From the moment we arrived, the whole day felt intentional, relaxed, and full of good energy.

Ceremony on the Terrace

The ceremony took place at 4:00 PM out on The Terrace, which overlooks the mountains and really brings the whole property into the moment. Even in early March, it’s a stunning backdrop. We handled sound for the ceremony while Brett and Shelby curated a playlist for everything from the prelude to the recessional — a simple but personal touch.

A rain plan was ready inside The Loft, but the weather cooperated. Guests bundled up, found their seats, and the whole thing unfolded with that quiet, scenic Vermont calm.

Cocktail Hour in the Tavern

After the ceremony, everyone made their way to the Tavern, one of Mountain Top’s coziest spaces. Brett and Shelby opted for their own playlist here rather than live music, which matched the intimate, rustic vibe of the room really nicely. Drinks, conversation, warm lighting — a perfect breather before the evening ramped up.

A High-Energy Entrance in the Events Barn

The reception officially kicked off in the Events Barn, and this is where the night really came alive. Brett and Shelby put a lot of thought into how they wanted their entrance to feel, and honestly, it was one of the most joyful, coordinated openings we’ve seen.

Guests were invited to line the dance floor, creating a runway of sorts. We introduced the couple (with the proper “Blackiston — like ‘tin’” pronunciation!), and they entered to “A Good Night” by John Legend,” which we played live. Their families and wedding party were right behind them, and the place instantly turned electric.

At the start of the second verse, we opened the dance floor to the entire room, and suddenly everyone was dancing before dinner had even begun. It was the kind of moment that sets the tone for an unforgettable night.

First Dance: “Beyond” by Leon Bridges”

As the entrance song wrapped, guests stepped back to create a ring around the dance floor so Brett and Shelby could share their first dance. They chose “Beyond” by Leon Bridges,” performed live and trimmed just a bit for pacing. After the high-energy entrance, this felt like the perfect grounding moment — quiet, emotional, and intimate.

Toasts, Dinner, and a Warm, Relaxed Atmosphere

Toasts followed shortly after, starting with a welcome from Shelby’s dad, Bob. Then the room settled into dinner while a small ECS combo played — exactly the vibe the couple asked for: smooth, warm, and gently upbeat without anything too formal.

Mountain Top’s team took fantastic care of everyone, including the band. The whole dinner portion moved at a comfortable pace, and the barn felt especially cozy as the sun went down.

Parent Dances Before the Dance Set

Once dinner wrapped, guests once again surrounded the dance floor for the parent dances. Shelby danced with her father to a shortened version of “Two of Us” by The Beatles, and Brett shared a moment with his mom to Josh Groban’s “Both Sides Now,” also shortened slightly.

As the last notes faded, we invited guests back onto the floor — a great, seamless way to launch into the full band performance.

Dance Party: A Mix of Eras, Genres, and Good Vibes

The dance set kicked off right around 7:00 PM, and from the first song on, the energy never dipped. Brett and Shelby asked for a little bit of everything — funk, soul, R&B, classic rock, pop — and their crowd was ready for it.

They also had a couple of specific requests:

  • “Sing to You” — John Splithoff (during the main set)

  • “A Good Night” — John Legend (entrance song)

The dance floor stayed packed all night. Even as the scheduled end time approached, Mountain Top graciously let the party spill a few minutes past 11:00 so we could finish strong.

A Private Last Dance to Close Out the Night

After the final encore, guests filtered out toward the after-party while Brett and Shelby stayed behind for a private last dance. Their choice — “Consider Me” by Allen Stone” — was the perfect capstone. After a night filled with huge, joyful moments, that quiet song in an empty barn hit exactly the right note.

A Beautiful March Celebration in Chittenden

Brett and Shelby were an absolute joy — thoughtful, upbeat, organized, and genuinely fun to work with. Mountain Top Resort was the perfect setting for them: warm, rustic, and effortlessly scenic, even on a late-winter weekend.

It was a privilege to celebrate with them in Vermont.
Congratulations, Brett and Shelby — and thank you again for having us.
